Vanessa Bennett
is a licensed depth psychotherapist, author, and facilitator.
Vanessa Bennett is a licensed depth psychotherapist, author, and facilitator whose work explores relationships, identity, self abandonment, and the lifelong process of returning to oneself. Drawing from Jungian and depth psychology, embodiment practices, and lived experience, her work invites people to examine the unconscious patterns that shape how they love, relate, and move through the world. She is known for her grounded, compassionate approach to healing, one that balances emotional honesty with practical insight.
Before becoming a therapist, Vanessa spent more than a decade working in the fast paced world of corporate New York, an experience that eventually led her toward a deeper exploration of healing, psychology, and spiritual practice. Her path brought her into the study of somatic therapy, mindfulness, yoga, and depth psychology, later earning a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology with an emphasis in Depth Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute.
Vanessa is the coauthor of the bestselling relationship book It’s Not Me, It’s You, written with her partner John Kim, and the author of The Motherhood Myth, which explores the cultural narratives, generational conditioning, and internalized expectations that shape motherhood, partnership, and identity. She is also the founder of Inner Compass Academy and cohost of the Cheaper Than Therapy podcast, where she brings psychological insight into conversations about relationships, healing, and personal growth.
Through her writing, teaching, retreats, and therapeutic work, Vanessa encourages people to move beyond performance, conditioning, and inherited roles in order to reconnect with a deeper sense of authenticity, agency, and self trust.
